Board of Assessment Appeals

The Board of Assessment Appeals is made up of three Middlefield residents who are elected to the Board.  Their job is to hear appeals against property assessments.

They meet with taxpayers in March and September each year.  An appeal must be filed in writing in February for the March meeting; August for the September meeting.

Appeal forms are available at the Assessor’s Office in early January.

The September meeting(s) are for Motor Vehicle assessments only (from the July billing), and is usually held mid-September. You can call the Assessor’s Office the week of Labor Day to find out the date(s).

Deadlines and meeting dates are announced in the “Latest News & Announcements” on the main page of the website, advertised in the local newspaper (Town Times), and on the Town Notice Board in the town hall at least ten days in advance of the meeting date.
