Caution Using Disinfecting and Sanitizing Wipes

During the current COVID-19 pandemic the use of disinfecting and sanitizing wipes has greatly increased.  Contrary to product label information which say “wipes are flushable”, they will cause problems with sewer and septic systems.

Wipes in sewer systems cause clogs in pumping systems and sewer mains leading to expensive repairs and possible sewage backup into homes and businesses.

Wipes in septic systems do not biodegrade and will cause clogs in sewer piping and septic tank inlet and outlet baffles; resulting in plumber and septic tank cleaner service calls.

Used wipes should be placed in a covered trash receptacle and not flushed down a toilet.

Current and reliable details on COVID-19 can be found on the Town’s Health Districts’ website at www.pshd.org and the Center for Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov .

Please be safe and stay healthy.
